Trivia night for Temcare - July 2009

Upstream Foundation held a very successful Trivia night on 3rd July to raise funds for Temcare. Temcare is a cross-regional welfare agency providing Mentoring and Respite Care to a range of families and young people in the community. Temcare's respite care provides temporary/emergency care for children aged 0-15 for one in every six weekends. The respite care program aims to avoid long term care outside the natural family as well as to prevent crisis or breakdown occurring.

We were able to pass on $1500 to support the great work that Temcare do.

Oxfam Trailwalker - Annual

Every year, staff & friends of Upstream form several teams to take part in the gruelling Oxfam 100km Trailwalker. In 2009 we had four teams start and remarkably, 4 teams finish! Team Upstreamfoundation.org did us proud coming in second overall with a time of 11 hours & 44 minutes, moving up a spot from coming 3rd in 2008. Jogging Upstream weren't too far behind finishing with an impressive time of 13hrs & 35 minutes. Upstream Five Triple Two just beat the 24hour mark with a time of 23hrs 52 min & our all girl team, Walking Upstream, finished in 27hrs & 54 minutes. More importantly, our teams raised over $13,000 for Oxfam. Thanks to all our staff, family & friends who sponsored, encouraged, and supported our teams throughout the event (especially during the middle of the night!)

Victorian Bushfire Appeal - February 2009

Upstream Print Solutions and it's employees, together with the Upstream Foundation, donated over $30,000 to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

"Like all Australians we have watched in horror at the devastation the Victorian bushfires have caused. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to all those who have been affected by this tragedy." Chief Executive Officer Gordon Hoen said.

In addition to the $30,000 donation, Upstream also assisted in more immediate ways through the use of our delivery vans for transportation and the donation of pet food to Animal Aid.

Ardoch Youth Foundation Literary Buddy Program - 2008 & 2009

In 2008 Upstream took part in their first year of doing the literacy buddy program through Ardoch Youth Foundation. It was so successful, we are participating in the program again in 2009. We have also launched the program in our Sydney office. The program involves staff (‘big buddies') being paired with grade 3/4 students (‘little buddies') from Seaford Park Primary School. Buddies take it in turn writing letters to each other every few weeks. In addition to the letters, there are two visits per year. The program is designed to improve literacy skills & provide positive working role models to students who don't necessarily have any.
